Underdog
Hey everybody! I hope you're staying cool in this heat! It's way too hot for a hound dog, I know that! I had so much fun this weekend that I'm still recovering! On Saturday morning, my sister woke me up around nine (way too early for me) and asked me if I wanted to go to Slobberfest. I rolled out of bed and came downstairs because I'm always up for new things even though I had no idea what I was in for. She packed my bag and away we went. As we pulled up a long driveway, I could smell something familiar and I got really excited! Then I saw them- about 20 basset hounds just like me! It's not every day that I get to see floppy-eared, bow-legged hounds like myself unless Maggie comes over. I was so excited I started to howl! My sister and my mom helped me out of the car and said that we had to go register. I didn't know what that meant but there were so many bums to sniff and nice people to meet that I didn't care. We went to the registration table and they told us about all the games I could sign up to play. I stopped dead in my tracks. "Games?! What games? I am not prepared for this, I haven't even practiced" I howled. No one listened to me and they signed me up anyways. We went and sat down under a tent where they gave me a drink of water. I was hoping for something a little stronger to take the edge off since I apparently was suckered into some sort of canine Olympics. Then, I heard the announcer say, "OK it's time to line up for Bobbin' for Biscuits." "What the heck does that mean?" I thought as we lined up. I watched some of my new friends dunk their heads into water dishes for biscuits. Then, all eyes were on me in the center of the ring and I heard, "Ready, set, go!" My sister dropped a perfectly good biscuit in a water bowl and I just stared at her. Why would I want to eat a soggy biscuit? Luckily, another hound fell for the trick and that game was over quickly so we went back to our chairs and rested. I got my picture taken by a lot of people and then I heard, "It's time for the Basset Dash." "Oh brother, what am I in for now?" I thought as my mom brought me in the ring. Apparently, I had to race from her to my sister against my new friend, Flash. They gave us the go ahead and Flash dashed to his mom so fast his ears were flying. I just waddled to my sister at my leisure. "Another one down. How many more do I have left?" I wondered. I went over to another booth to get my ears measured. They were both nine inches long. Doggone it, I lost again! The last class I went in was the costume contest. I dressed up as an angel because they found the costume in our Halloween box the night before. Janis Joplin won that one with Charlie the snail a close second. By that time I was really hot and had made enough friends that I decided it was time to accept my defeat and venture home. Even though I didn't win anything, I still had lots of fun and my mom told me that the money we spent there all went to Droopy Basset Rescue in Union City! Helping my fellow hounds out that need loving homes sure made my tail wag and I hope I get to go again next year.
On another note, I am very thankful that my mom's A/C was working good for our road trip Saturday because like I said, I was one hot dog! Keep yourselves and your pups (if they like to ride as much as I do) cool with an A/C service from one of my friends at Chase Car Care. You and your furry friends will sure be glad you did!
Sloppy Kisses,
Drakey
